Continuing traditions, new colors, prodigy composers, and experienced composers at the Budapest Festival Orchestra's autumn concert!

Composers Winking at Each Other

The BFO is a down-to-earth ensemble that travels all over the country and is also known on distant continents, as they regularly tour the world. It’s no coincidence that audiences everywhere are curious about them, as the ensemble has been ranked among the top ten orchestras in the world for years on various lists. This time, János Pilz has again chosen works for the BFO’s string orchestra series that are connected in many ways. The program spans from the Baroque to the Romantic period, with the featured composers, styles, and forms constantly referencing each other—both backward and forward. Handel, who pays tribute to Corelli, is followed by C.P.E. Bach, who steps out of his father’s shadow with his bold innovations. In the second half of the concert, a piece by the sixteen-year-old Mozart, who composed in an Italian style, and a work by the thirteen-year-old Mendelssohn, who shines in the Mozart style, will be performed.

It’s almost a tradition that the soloist for the featured concerto is the winner of the orchestra’s Sándor Végh Competition—Anett Jóföldi can boast four such awards. Be there when these composers wink at each other!
