The Most Active Beach

Keszthely’s largest beach, the City Beach, which is also the first one, opened in 1927 for swimmers. It is popular among young people due to the entertainment venue in the neighbourhood, but it is also excellent for active leisure time, the already mentioned 1870 m2 water park, the recently renovated slide, the sandy sports fields all serve this purpose. Although it is hidden in the part of the beach further from the main entrance, it should not be overlooked that thanks to Tímea Paksy,  multiple world and European champion kayaker, a Kayak-canoe point has been created.

HintIn the rental of the Keszthely Water Sports Association, there is an opportunity to rent tour kayaks, canoes, and SUPs, in addition to world champion instruction.

In 2021, the Active Beach program series was held for the first time, within which agility games (summer snowballing), championships (teqball, kayaking, streetball, beach football, mini golf, beach volleyball, etc.) could be participated in exchange for experience coupons and various discounts. The game programs were always preceded by a motivational talk, among others with Tímea Paksy, world and European champion kayaker, and Veronika Major, Olympic champion.

Passive Relaxation

Of course, we can also choose the more passive way of relaxation, sunbathing on the beach or on the sunbeds floating on the water. We can get into the shallow water in many places and in many ways. There is a sandy part in the bays at the northern and southern ends of the beach – which is especially favorable for families with small children, in the middle section stairs lead to the Balaton water. The beach services also include changing rooms, cabins, showers.

An interesting factThe City Beach can be approached from the only island bath of the Balaton, which has been welcoming those who wish to rest, bathe and sunbathe along the Balaton shore since the second half of the 19th century.

Beach Library

The Fejér György Public Library is running a Beach Library on the City Beach during the summer from the 3rd week of July until the 2nd week of August, so don’t worry if you don’t have anything to read while sunbathing on the beach. You can choose from a selection of books on display in a bookcase until the Beach Library opens and after it closes.

Approach and Parking

The City Beach is located in the central part of the Balaton-part near the pier. The train station and bus station are a few minutes walk away. Parking near the main entrance of the beach is paid, while the southern (back) entrance is free. Good news for cyclists is that the beach also has a bicycle storage.

Admission Ticket

Discounted tickets can be purchased at the beach, we can bathe with a 50% discount after 6 pm. The West-Balaton card can be used, payment can also be made with SZÉP card, bank card or cash.
